General Beauregard (1818 - 1893) Confederate major general who initiated the attack on Fort Sumter which started the Civil War. Beauregard also led with great distinction at First Bull Run, Shiloh, and in the defense of Richmond. A tintype, 1 1/4" x 1 3/4", shows Beauregard from the chest, up in his "early war" uniform, ca. 1861. Printed on verso: "General Beauregard". Housed in original brass mat. Believed to be from the series by Abbott & Co. of New York, but no Abbott label present.
