HARTFORD, George Huntington (1833-1917) headed the Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company (A&P) from 1878 to 1917. During this period, A&P created the concept of the chain grocery store and expanded into the country's largest retailer. Signed Check "Geo. H. Hartford" as president on The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co., Dec. 14, 1914 in the amount of $1000 to Continental Bank.
