Pamphlet, “An Address of the Relation of the General Government to Slavery Delivered Before A Public Meeting In Camden. NJ.” by Isaac s. Mulford, Philadelphia, 1856, 16pp plus cover, some pages remain untrimmed. His posirion is in opposition of slavery, “First, That our national institutions were erected as free institutions, for the purpose of giving and securing liberty to every individual within their reach. Second, That a policy has grown up in our government entirely inconsistent with its original design; that power is now wielded in opposition to liberty, and for the promotion and extension of the interests of slavery. ... at the period when the Constitution was formed, slaves were found in most of the original States. This fact was felt to be disgraceful to the people of the country ... to secure the amity of States, by directing that fugitives should be restored when escaping from one State to another.....” (Manuscript Society)
