A complete and authentic issue of the New York Times, June 15, 1937, 48pp, disbound, fine. From the front page, below the fold, two column headline, "Plan to Divide Palestine Reported Dropped Because Arab and Jewish Opposition". This was the The Peel Commission recommendation, rejected but in essence, it is the same partition which went into effect 10 years later under the United Nations. The Arabs opposed the partition plan and condemned it unanimously. The Arab Higher Committee opposed the idea of a Jewish state and called for an independent state of Palestine, "with protection of all legitimate Jewish and other minority rights and safeguarding of reasonable British interests". They also demanded cessation of all Jewish immigration and land purchase.
