The glass flask, 4"w x 6-1/2"t x 1-2"d,has a pewter twist cap, is leather-covered on the top half, and silver-covered on the bottom half. The engraving is "B.F. Buck, 2nd U.S. Penn.Cav., 1861. The leather is peppled and shows a 1" spot where the leather is lost. Benjamin F. Buck enlisted at age 27 at Philadelphia, November 12, 1861 into K Company, Pa 2nd Cavalry. He was captured (date unkown) and died at Andersonville Prison, August 8, 1864. Buck is buried at the Andersonville National Cemetery, Grave #5082. The consignor's original receipt, $495, from August 25, 1899 is present.
