This is an original pen/ink board, signed by Szep, 20" x 15". A citizen (in the form of cartoonist Al Capp's L'il Abner character "Fearless Fosdick" wearing a lawman's badge) is bent over, carrying a plump, blindfolded Lady Justice on his back. The sword she carries says "Supreme Court" and the scales of justice are in the other hand. On the Lady's back is a cigar smoking, machine gun touting gangster. Our citizen sarcastically says, "I know ... I know .. There's no such thing as a bad boy." This likely in response to the 1966 Miranda warnings case. In 1917, the Rev. Edward J. Flanagan, a 31-year-old Irish priest, opened the doors to Boys Town, a home for troubled and neglected children in Omaha. He lived by the adage, "There is no such thing as a bad boy."
