Original photograph, 9.5" x 7.5", Punta Gorda, Florida. This incredible image of Theodore Roosevelt and noted shark hunter, Russell J. Coles, was taken by Underwood & Underwood, while on a giant manta ray hunting expedition near Punta Gorda, Florida, in 1917. The verso is stamped by Underwood & Underwood, a New York City photography studio, with notes in pencil that state "On fishing trip West Coast of Florida." A stamped imprint over Roosevelt's face is barely visible and reads "File Copy Do not remove." The image appears to have the signatures of Roosevelt and Coles written on the photo, but in actuality, the “Theodore Roosevelt” is part of the photograph, not "live ink. The signature of “Russell J. Coles” is a “live ink signature”.The photograph comes with a digital out print from the Roosevelt National Historic Site, of Roosevelt and Coles with their beached harpooned manta ray.
