Book, 1st edition, “Military Commission To Europe in 1855 & 1856, report of Major Alfred Mordecai, of the Ordnance department,” Washington, George Bowman’s Printer, 1860, 232pp.. Twenty-one plates with engravings , twelve fold-out plates, arms diagrams. Bound in embossed dark-brown cloth, light corner wear, and to extremities of the spine. Clean and bright text inside. Alfred Mordecai (1804-1887) entered West Point at age 15 and graduated first in his class in 1823. He authored the first manual for the standardized manufacture of weapons with interchangeable parts. He wrote "Second Report of Experiments in Gun Powder" (1849) and "Ordinance Manual for the Use of Officers of the United States Army" (1841).
