Two authentic and complete issues of Harper's Weekly, each 16pp., disbound, VG. From the cover of the March 10, 1860 issued is a 2/3-page engraving, from Brady photo, and biography of Robert M. T. Hunter. Robert Mercer Taliaferro Hunter (1809-1887) was a Virginia lawyer, politician and plantation owner. He was a U.S. Representative (1837-1843, 1845-1847), Speaker of the House (1839-1841), and U.S. Senator (1847-1861). During the American Civil War, Hunter became the Confederate States Secretary of State and then a Confederate and a critic of Jefferson Davis. ... plus, March 24, 1860 issue, interior page, 2/3-page engraved image of Robert Toombs, from Brady photo, with a lengthy biography. Robert Augustus Toombs (1810-1885) was an American lawyer, planter, and national politician from Georgia who became one of the organizers of the Confederacy and served as its first Secretary of State under President Jefferson Davis.
