A very rare Civil War era letter written entirely in short hand, 3pp. 8vo., on Union patriotic stationery depicting American military martyrs, Revolutionary War hero, Colonel Joseph Warren. Over his portrait, reads: "The first officer killed in the Revolution." Alongside Warren's appears image is Colonel Elmer E. Ellsworth who was, "The first officer killed in the present Rebellion." Ellsworth had been recently killed in northern Virginia in May 1861. We have not deciphered this letter which was written in 1861 and we feel is worthy of further research. Overall near fine
