Union Officer's not written by Josiah B. Coloney who enlisted on 5/27/1861 he was commissioned into "I" Co. MD 1st Infantry as a 1st Lieutenant. Coloney is listed as POW 5/23/1862 Front Royal, VA., Paroled 8/17/1862 Aiken's Landing, VA., Exchanged 9/21/1862 Aiken's Landing, VA., and wounded again 8/21/1864 Weldon Railroad, VA. (wounded in back & right hip). Josiah B. Coloney was promoted to major, but never returned to the regiment due to his mortal wound, dying on October 9, 1864.Autograph Note Signed, 6-1/2" x 3", "Mrs J.B. Coloney, No. 82 Hancock Street ... Maggie we are now passing through Hagerstown, Be at the United States Hotel Fredericksburg City tomorrow. We pass through there & I will see you, it may be the last time. Bring no luggage. J.B.
