Lovely jewelry oval pinback, 1-1/4" x 1-3/4" with an albumen image surrounded by gold-toned metal. The image is that of Jimmy Archer, who was the regular catcher for the Chicago Cubs from 1911 through 1916, earning a spot on Baseball Magazine's "All-America Team" each year from 1912 to 1914. Called one of the "greatest catchers ever" by Chicago Cubs', Jimmy Archer was the catcher for two pennant winning teams (1907 Detroit Tigers and the 1910 Chicago Cubs) in his career. A Cub from 1909 to 1917 (part of the Tinker-to-Evers-Chance era), Archer once threw out threw three baserunners in an inning and was said to be the first catcher to throw out a runner from the squatting position.
