War-date Confederate Manuscript Document Signed within document and in the hand of Confederate General and Indian Agent Albert Pike, 2pp. folio, c. August 1862, entitled "Account of money's received and paid out by Albert Pike on a/c of fees due by the Choctaw Nation to John T. Cochrane, Albert Pike, Luke Lea and Douglas H. Coper. This document records fees beginning in March 181 and continuing through July 182. The itemized expenditures total $51,75.0 and were paid with $45,000 in Confederate Paper and 6,675 in Gold. The second document itemizes expenditures for the Choctaw by "Albert Pike, Attorney for Choctaws" One fold separation, else very good condition....plus; Manuscript in the hand of Albert Pike, 1862, 3pp. quarto recording Choctaw fees for the Nation. Fine condition. At the beginning of the American Civil War, Albert Pike was appointed as Confederate envoy to Native Americans. In this capacity he negotiated several treaties, one of the most important being with Cherokee chief John Ross, which was concluded in 1861. The treaty was ratified and was proclaimed on December 20, 1861 by the Confederacy. The Choctaw and Chickasaw also duly ratified the treaty.
