Document, Last Will of Lucy Bryan, 2pp., June 20, 1838, VG. In small part, “It is my will and wish that my Negroes, Lowit, Milinda, Henry, maty Ann, Lewis and Martha be sold in the neighborhood at a private sale ....” Clarly Ms. Bryan wanted her slaves to remain local for their benefit.
