Abbott and Co., New York, tintype of Maj. General Wool is in a 1-3/8" x 1-5/8" lustrous brass shell frame. The item retains the original loop which is often missing. On the reverse is the printed label identifying both the producer and the subject. On August 1, President Lincoln sent an order retiring Wool from service after 51 years in the Army. At the age of 79, he was the oldest general officer to execute active command in either army during the war.
