Pair of carte de visite of Union generals, includes: Andrew Jackson Smith (1815-1897) was a United States Army general during the American Civil War, rising to the command of a corps. He was most noted for his victory over Confederate General Stephen D. Lee at the Battle of Tupelo, Mississippi, on July 14, 1864. Seated pose in uniform with Oak Gallery, Memphis, Tennesse, backmark. Good condition....plus ; View of General Edward Canby who commanded the Department of New Mexico, defeating the Confederate General Henry Hopkins Sibley at the Battle of Glorieta Pass, forcing him to retreat to Texas. At the war's end, he took the surrender of Generals Richard Taylor and Edmund Kirby Smith. As commander of the Pacific Northwest in 1873, he was assassinated during peace talks with the Modoc, with Theo Lilienthal of New Orleans backmark. Both good condition.
