c. 1780 American Revolutionary War Period, General George Washington Portrait, Engraving of "General de Noord-Americaanen," by Vinkeles, After Peale, Choice Crisp Extremely Fine. This quality Engraved Portrait of George Washington by Reiner Vinkeles is after the original painting by Peale. It shows George Washington facing left, yet with his eye looking to the right. He is dressed in his General's military uniform. Beneath, a base on which is title and upon which lies a hat, baton and olive branch. A plaque on the pedestal reads: "G. Washington, - Generaal Der Noord-Americaanen." A curtain hangs over and conceals the upper left corner of picture frame. The caption below this print reads, in tiny letters: "Rein r. Vinkeles, sculp. Naar Enn Original. Schildery, by Den Wel Ed. Heer P Van Winter, Nic : z." Its dimensions measure; engraved image Size: about 5.5" x 3.5"; overall Sheet Size: about 8.25" x 5." This original Revolutionary War period print is in excellent condition, just a couple light creases in the outer margins, sharply printed on very clean proper thick laid period paper.
