Twelve folio size census documents from the states of Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine, Rhode Island, and Vermont from February, March and May of 1821. Towns are listed in the far left corner, and across the top it states "Free White Males" .."Free white females".. "Slaves".. "Free Colored Persons ". For the state of Massachusetts, Maine, and Vermont there are no slaves listed, but several free colored men and women are listed. For the states of Connecticut and Rhode Island there are several slaves listed. In Newport Rhode Island, for example, that well known city had 17 slaves listed, ages ranging from 14-45 years of age. In the town of Wethersfield, Connecticut, for example, there are 10 slaves listed. These documents go into great detail regarding how old the slaves were, and whether they were male or female. Rarely do early 19th Century census reports regarding Free African Americans and African American's held as Slaves appear on the market. Overall fine condition with just light age and some old paper remnants.
