Pair of war-date Union Autograph Letters Signed penned in 1861, pertaining to coal production. One letter from the Union Deposit Furnance states “Our little furnace is making at the rate of 92 and 93 tons grey muted per week...this is better than she ever done since built...” The other “There is a scarcity of hands in this county, which was already felt before the enlistment of volunteers & as a good many miners have left it is evident that as soon as the demand for coal increased there will be a rise in wages & in prices...” Fine condition.
