1700’s Colonial Period Hand-forged Iron Candle Snuffer, Fine. This scissors-like original Colonial ear Candle Snuffer measures 6.5” long. The action is simple: just approach a lit candle, open the handles, place the wick within the paddle, and close the handles. The paddle will push the wick into the containment area, instantly snuffing it out. The point at the end of the snuffer could be used to dig wicks out of hot wax, saving the operator’s fingers. This hand-forged example shows the usual light even rust patina and oxidation acquired over centuries, yet it remains fully operational and ready for actual use, or display.
