Henry Clay Thurston ( 1833-1909) was beyond a doubt the tallest man in the Confederate Army, and was perhaps during the time that he lived, one of the tallest men in the world. He was 7 feet 7 inches tall. He enlisted on 12/1/1862 into "I" Co. MO 4th Cavalry and was Surrendered on 6/7/1865 at Shreveport, LA. He was wounded Poison Springs, AR (date not stated) (Wounded in the head.).Exceptional Baton, 26", with turned wood handle. The presentation is stenciled in gold on either side, "Col. H.C. Thurston" and on the other, "The Texas Giant".
