c. 1750-1800 Mid 18th Century Colonial Era, Tall "MINERS" Lamp with Decorative "ROOSTER" Knob Design, Cast and Forged Iron. French Design, Fine. This is the one of the very Finest Quality Examples of an early Colonial Era Miner's Lamp we have ever seen. The lamp is 7.5" tall without the handle and 23" with it. The pan is 4" across. Typical original wear and imperfections with natural age and patina. Original in its shape and twisted handle design as well as its original large hanging hook. The best type of period form. The surface has a nice old 19th Century oiling with quality in eye appeal and patina having original tool marks throughout. There is one small spot on the bottom that was soldered in the 19th Century. The Full Size and properly dimensional Wrought Iron “Rooster” Securing Knob is all original. This choice lamp also retains its original and Very Rare Brass Nipple Filler and Spout Lip. Most Miner's Lamp were fabricated of heavy cast iron to withstand the physical abuse associated with that profession. The extremely heavy hanging hook is also common with this type of lamp. What is absolutely not common is the add "ROOSTER" Knob Decoration. This example is certainly of “Museum” Quality being the nicest specimen of 18th Century, Colonial Pennsylvania Wrought Iron Lighting of this rare form we have seen. A great display item of museum quality.
