Autograph Letter Signed "M. Marston" 3pp. quarto, Washington City, January 7, 1832, with integral leaf addressed to John Lothrop of Boston, and reads in part: "...I hope that I shall have the pleasure of shaking hands with Henry Clay the next President of the United States. Washington is as lively as you please. The President's evening levees will commence soon. Our members of Congress will soon begin to spit out their war speeches and us poor devils will have hard times working all night. I suppose the election of Charles Wells for your mayor gives general satisfaction to the citizens of Boston at least to the Republican part of the community. I was much pleased to hear of it, anything but Jacksonism...." Dampstained, else about very good condition.
