Group of three Revolutionary War manuscripts, includes: Receipt signed by William Starr, who had service with the 5th Regiment, ‘Connecticut Line’ and fought with them at Germantown and Monmouth, and survivied the horrandous winters at Valley Forge and Morristown. He also had previous service with Eigth Militia, the 2nd Regiment under General Spencer, and in the defense of New York....plus; Manuscript Document Signed, “Clark Chandler” 1p. oblong octavo, February 20, 1768, being a receipt for rum and bottles from Dr.John Green. Fine. Clark Chandler was a Tory from Worcester, Massachusetts, who in 1774, as town clerk, recorded a protest of forty-three royalist citizens against the resolutions of the patriotic majority. This record he was compelled in open town meeting to deface, and when he failed to render it sufficiently illegible with the pen, his tormentors dipped his fingers into the ink and used them to perfect the obliteration. He then fled to Halifax....plus; Manuscript Document Signed, “Benja. Gould” 1p. oblong octavo, May 14, 1781, being a receipt of ‘eighteen hard dollars’ for payment of a man’s 3 year service. Gould (1751-1841) served in various Massachusetts regiments during the Revolutionary War, including those of Col Backer & Moses Little. (3 items)
