Newspaper, “The Pennsylvania Gazette,” November 9, 1769, 4pp., disbound, spine loose, good. From the front page, a full column report from Savannah detailing eight resolves of a NON IMPORTATION agreement of England’s products “until said Acts (Townhend) are repealed.” As example, “6. From and after the first day of June 1770 we will not import, buy or sell, any Negroes that shall be brought into this Province from Africa, nor ... any Negroes from the West Indies, or any other place ... and if any Negroes be sent to us contrary to our agreement, such goods shall be reshipped or stored and such Negroes reshipped from this Province and not by any means offered for sale therein ...” The Townshend Acts passed by Parliament 1767 placing a tax on common products imported into the American Colonies. In April 1770, this Act was repealed, with the exception of a tax that was retained on tea, which would eventually lead to the Boston Tea Party.
