PAINE, Robert Treat (1731-1814) Signer of the Declaration of Independence, prosecuted Capt. Thomas Preston and his men for firing on inhabitants of Boston in the "Boston Massacre" in 1770, delegate to the Provincial congress in 1774-75, and to the Continental congress from 1774-78, Massachusetts attorney-general in 1780-90, and Supreme Court justice from 1790 to 1804. Manuscript Document Signed, “R.T. Paine” as attorney, 1p. oblong quarto, November 1, 1778, Newton, Bristol County, in part: “The Jurors for the Commonwealth the Massachusetts upon this oath present that Elizabet Morey...did committ fornication with a man to the Jurors unknown...” Witnessed.
