Colonel William Malcolm War-Date Autograph letter signed, “C’l Malcolm,”Albany, Feb. 3, 1781, 1pp., 8” x 12,” very good. Written to an unstated recipient, most likely, Governor George Clinton, in full "Sir, I have applied to the Commander in Chief for Pay to the Brigade of Levys under my command and was answered that it could not be obtained from the Continental Treasurer, but from the State Treasury. It is, therefore, my duty to request your Excellency to give a warrant for that purpose. I have the honor to be, with great respect, Your Excellency's most Obt. & Humble Servt." Col. Wm. Malcolm served as Major & Colonel, NY Militia, in 1776 and as Colonel of one of the 16 additional Continental Regiments ('77-79). He was Deputy Adj.-General of the Northern Department as of Oct. 1778 and served subsequently as Colonel.
