Entirely handcrafted in a most delicate manner; and a genuine antique; at least early 19'th century (possibly as early as 18'th century). Decidedly of Middle Eastern (likely Morocco?) origins. More than a mere ornament; pointers as this were used to ensure sanctity of the Torah scroll would not be defiled by the bare hand when reading from it. 11 inches overall; top of handle in shape of large open-work silver crown; the lower end in shape of a small, silver, clenched hand with its index finger pointing outward. Workmanship throughout typically mid-Eastern, extremely delicate and lacy filigree openwork by an obviously skilled artisan. Below the crown on top, the square silver fixture has large engraved Hebrew letters on each side (letters worn from cleaning and age and faintly visible). In extremely sound condition and complete; displaying its genuine great antiquity!
