JOSEPH KRAUSKOPF (1858-1923); among the leaders of Reform movement. Unique set of four of his original handwritten (in a tiny, very neat, easily read hand) penned manuscripts for his Sunday sermons delivered 1914-1915 while leading Temple Keneseth Israel of Phila. All four sermons on "PATRIOTISM VERSUS HUMANITARIANISM." Each six pages (8 ½ x 11 ½); each accompanied with printed version as well and all are bound together in a handsome, gold embossed binding with quarter leather hard covers; all exc.+. The manuscript sermons all personally edited by Krauskopf with minor crossed-out clauses, additional words and marginal notes in his handwriting. The subject "PATRIOTISM" on all make especially fascinating reading. Krauskopf ordained 1883; served the congregation of Kansas City, MO where he attracted nationwide attention with his lectures. His notoriety in drawing attention to the need for Jewish literature was the foundation for the organization 1888 of the Jewish Pub. Society of America; he held many important posts. 1898 in Span-Am War he was appointed by U.S. Gov't as "Special Field Commissioner of Nat'l Relief Comm." In duties of visiting American military camps in U.S. and Cuba, he took it upon himself to minister to Jewish servicemen in the field on the fighting fronts. (Story well told in his bio sketches that accompany these manuscripts.) Superb American Judaica. Exc.+ condition.
