Stone” 1p. quarto, on “Philadelphia Branch Jewish Welfare Board U.S. Army and Navy” lettersheet, December 5, 1918, with matching cover addressed to Mrs. Lutz in Philadelphia, and reads “Permit us to thank you for your share in last evening’s very enjoyable entertainment at Camp Dix, and to express our appreciation of your cooperation with us...” Near Fine.The National Jewish Welfare Board (JWB) was formed on April 9, 1917, three days after the United States declared war on Germany. The organization was charged with recruiting and training rabbis for military service, as well as providing support materials to these newly commissioned chaplains. The JWB also maintained oversight of Jewish chapel facilities at military installations.
