1930's. Catawba Valley, NC. Bisque fired art pottery touristware which is was painted on the outside and commonly alkaline glazed on the inner surface. Identified Catawba Indian pottery as the Hilton family, along with the Brown family in Buncombe County, made the pottery to have a similar style to the pottery of the Catawba Indian pieces of the period (from near Rock Hill, SC). In this vase was painted with a deep blue color. Excellent condition. Provenance: formerly in Dr. Everett James collection.
