Manuscript Document Signed, 1-1/4p. folio, December 6, 1840. being “Evidence Given” in a case between Loward Wesson and Robert Bruland, where Dr. Wier “Sayeth that some short time after the sale of Negro Leah and her two children that he was called to her a negro who had the clap or rather the pack. The Dr. further sayeth that he firmly beliveith Leah’s complaint to be the pack. The Dr. also sayeth that the contagion ordinary must have existed previous to the sale...The Dr. sayeth that he was recently called to the said negro Leah found her labouring under gonnorea or simple clap...We the undersigned arbitrators do award to Loward Wesson one hundred dollars and the Amt. of the First medical bill in the case as above stated...” Fine. Thomas Wier born July 8, 1800, was a physician. Married Nancy Long of Laurens District, where he lived and practiced his profession, raising a family of five sons and two daughters. Four sons and a son-in-law James Davis lost their lives in the War Between the States.
