WEISS, John (1818-1879) His father a German Jew, was a barber in Worcester, Mass. He graduated at Harvard in 1837. He then was settled over the Unitarian church but withdrew on account of his anti-slavery opinions. He was an ardent Abolitionist, an advocate of women’s rights, a rationalist in religion and a disciple of the transcedental philosphy. Autograph Letter Signed, “ J. Weiss”, 1p. octavo, July 11, 1873, Brookline, Massachusetts, and reads “Please admit the bearer, R.B. Weiss, to the priviliges of teh Atheneum upon I have No. 461...” VG.
