Autograph Letter Signed, 1-1/.2p. quarto, Bedford, Pennsylvania, July 3, 1876, and reads in part: “I met a poor one legged colored soldier today about the house who in converstation said that he had never rec’d a cent of Bounty or pay or pension. He says, he gave his discharge to the Freedman’s B. agt James Frue Maysville, Ky. bu the agt was obliged to leave and he has never haeard of his claim. His name is Daniel Young, Co. I 100 Kentucky or 110 U.S.C.T. He lost a leg at explosion of Petersburg toward the close of the war. If you can inform me how his case stands it will be a charity. he can neither read nor write...” Fine.
