Printed broadside, 1p. quarto, Shreveport, Louisiana, August 10, 1901, offering a “$2,000 Reward!” and reads in part: “...$1000 by J.M. Foster Planting Co., Shreveport, La., and $250 by the Governor, $500 by Police Jury, Caddo Parish, $250 by Police Jury, Bossier Parish. For a negro named P. Edwards, wanted for the murder of John Gray Foster, on the Foster Plantation in Bossier Parish, on June 12, 1901. This negro is prominent in the ‘Church of God,’ founded by ‘Prophet Smith,’ and came from Houston, Texas, with Smith and many others the past spring. He is a ‘Prince’ of the ‘Church of God,’ is generally so called by its members, i.e., Prince P. Edwards...” With lenghty description of Edwards who was born and raised on Wharton place, Brazoria County, Texas, is 5’7, 180 pounds, between 40 & 45, Black, with “Teeth smmoth and white”, he also has a “scar from old shot wound just below shoulder, and also scar from operation for bladder trouble...” Fine.
