Autograph Letter Signed, "James C. Petman" 2p. octavo, on "Ohio State Military Agency" printed lettersheet, Washington, D.C., April 22, 1865, and reads in part: "…In behalf of our brave boys I would thank you for your words of sympathy backed as they are by deeds. The contents of your slain, hero brothers valise do honor to him in the disposal made of them by you…the Greatest Martyr has been added to the already long list of those swallowed up in this remorseless rebellion yet their sacrifices will not have been made in vain…" Some mounting residue, else about VG.
