BONHAM, Milledge Luke (1813-1890) Confederate general, member of the Confederate Congress, and Governor of South Carolina in 1863. Autograph Letter Signed, “M.L. Bonham Brig. Genl. Comdg.” 1p. quarto, Fairfax C.H., July 11, 1861, and reads “Such an appeal was made to me by Mr. Banks when I required him to leave the advance forces, and notified him that he would have to leave the Army of the Potomac, not to subject him to such an odious exposure, with such solemn promise not to attempt to telegraph or write a line in regard to military operations...” VG.
