Confederate Autograph Letter Signed, “John Tayloe, Capt. 9th Va. Cavalry” 1p. quarto, on Confederate States lettersheet, December 23, 1862, addressed to General D.H. Hill, and reads in part: “...I am now on deatched service in consequence of neuralgia which disables me for cavalry service. I will however retain my comm. as Capt. of Cavalry, but would be glad to join your staff as an extra Aide de Camp, Volunteer Aide, Military Secretary or any capacity in which I may be found useful...” Fine.
