War-date Confederate Autograph Letter Signed, “Henry T. Bartlett” and additionaly signed by “Geo. W. Helms” and “J.E. Adams” 1p. quarto, Jackson, Mississippi, September 12, 1862, addressed to Brigadier General Ruggles and reads “My friend Mr. J.E. Hogg has just informed me that a position of great trust in your Command has been tendered him by yourself provided he can establish satisfactory his position as a gentleman and his loyalty to the cause in which we are all in common laboring. I most cheerfully attest to his unimpeached character as a gentleman and the zeal he has manifested in our struggle for independence - His conduct has I believe been entirely consistent and I cheerfully say that I think he will faithfully perform the duties of any office that he may accept...” About VG.
