Confederate Manuscript General Orders No. 25 signed “John A. Buckner A.A.Genl.” who served with the 8th Kentucky Infantry, 2p. octavo, August 18, 1862, issued by Order of Major General Breckenridge, it reads in part: “...In pursuance of Orders from Head Quarters of Department, Brig. Gen. Ruggles will assume command of all the troops in this Military District except the Kentucky and Tennessee Troops and the Regts from Gen. Villipigue command (now commanded by Col. Scott) The troops thus excepted, will move tomorrow morning as early as possible, via Clinton to Camp Moore, and will be expected to reach the latter place very early on Friday morning. Pickets from the troops to Camp Moore will be called in this evening, and their places supplied by Brig. Gen. Ruggles from his command. If Brig Gen. Bowen has any organized force from Kentucky or Tennessee he will immediately send it to Camp Moore. II. Maj. Brown Commissary and Major Haynes Quarter Master of my command will provide subsistence and transportation for the troops to Camp Moore. III. Col. Scott will move his Brigade and Col. Trabue will move his Brigade, independently but they will confer together, and not separate far on the road and will try to reach Camp Moore nearly together early Friday morning. IV. Capt. Blackburn’s Cavalry Co. will report to these Head Quarters tomorrow morning at 8 oclock. V. Col Trabue will cause all the troops under his command, except the Ky and Tenn troops to report immediately to Brig. Gen. Ruggles. VI. Cobbs & Hudson’s Batteries will report to Col. Trabue. Capt. McClung with his battery will report to Brig. Gen. Ruggles...” VG.
