Printed Confederate General orders No. 46, 2p. octavo, Adjutant and Inspector General’s Office, Richmond, Virginia, April 20, 1863, pertaining to the court martial of Major Elias Griswold, for “Disobedience of lawful orders” which were “In this, that the said Major Elias Griswold, on or about the 2d day of January 1863, at Richmond, Va., did give a written permit to one James E. Lipscomb, to bring into the said city of Richmond ninety-one barrels of brandy, in violation of the lawful command of his superior officer, Brig. Gen. Jno. H. Winder.” Griswold was found guilty, “And the Court do therefore sentence the said Major Elias Griswold to be privately reprimanded by the Commander of the Department of Henrico.” VG.
