Post Office Deparment, Appointment Bureau lettersheet, Richmond, Virginia, March 28, 1863, addressed to Solomon Cohen, Postmaster at Savannah, Georgia, and reads “In response to yours of the 24th inst. stating that you have on hand a large quantity of stamped envelopes, I have to request that you will forward them to this Department....” Docketed by Cohen as answered. About VG. Solomen Cohen Ga. Democrat. U.S. Attorney for Georgia, 1840-42; delegate to Democratic National Convention from Georgia, 1860. Jewish. Confederate postmaster of Savannah. Organized a relief fund to support the family of Jefferson Davis while he was in prison after the Civil War.
