War-date Confederate Autograph Letter Signed, “Thos. A. Person” 2p. octavo, Louisburg, April 12, 1863, and reads in part: “...the Brandy above proof I have not got though I have that is very good that is just proof, but I can recommend you to McKnight who I understand puts his Brandy up very high, I should think you could be accomodated there....gota letter from Jesse yesterday dated the 7 he says they are all well, and are in Amherst county, Va. about 10 miles from Lynchburg and expects to go to Halifax, Va. in a few days. He says they are trying to recruit up there horses, he says when he gets to Halifax he will send Dennis home with his Yankee horse for me to recruit up. I have his little gray in fine plight he is as fat as a stud horse...Tom wil lbe off the last of this month I got a fine horse up in the stable fatening for him, I had a saddle made for him, which I paid $100 dollars for that and Bridle halter and saddle boys, Tom was 18 the 9 of this month, it will cost me every cent of five hundred dollars to fit him out for the war, he will join Chicks company...” Fine.
