For the Confederate States Government.” 1p. quarto, on onion skin paper, and records an Order by the Confederate States government to Evans & Cogswell, datelined Anderson, South Carolina, May 1, 1865, for “Ships Register Engraved on Steel” for $18,000, with ANS beneath from the Office Treasury Note Bureau, May 3, 1865, stating “ I certify that the ship’s Register above charged was actually furnished & destroyed by the Enemy in transit from Columbia to Charlotte. I further certify that to the best of my knowledge & belief the charges for Reentering, Engraving & Repairing Steele plates & drawing original design for soldiers bond, is correct & just...” with additioinal note from Evans & Cogswell, dated May 6, 1865, stating that they had received payment through W.J.
