A good war-date Northern home front letter written in ink by Mother Lyman, 4pp. 8vo., [East Hampton, Ma.], Aug. 15, 61 w/stamped cover, in part: "…Adelle is making shirts for sick soldiers she has got few suspenders. This kind I cannot help her do. She hopes to get a few more…there is a great panic to do [things] for [our] soldiers. I think it right what will become of this nation. Everything looks dark, our best officers [were] slain [at Bull Run and] the south [is] making rapid strides upon us. I am willing to sacrifice anything that slavery may be abolished and our civil and religious privileges be preserved…"VG.
