D NH Vol.” KIA at Fair Oaks, 2p. octavo, General Sumner Division Camp California, Fairfax County, Virginia, Howards Brigade, December 15, 1861, and reads in part: “...we have first rate times out here. We were out on picket about a week ago for four days but we did not see any Rebels. We are now about three miles from Alexandria and twelve miles from Fairfax Court House. You say that F.P. Morrison has enlisted and I am glad of it...we were called out one night about twelve oclock and marched three mies but we did not see no rebels...” VG.
