Mexican War veteran who served as Chief of Staff for General Dix during the Civil War, 2p. quarto, on printed Head Quarters, Seventh Army Corps lettersheet, Fort Monroe, Virginia, November 19, 1862, being a circular reading in part: "...The Major General commanding directs me to call your attention to the neglect of duty on the part of the following officers of your command in not complying with Par. II Genl Orders No. 20, current series...Listed are the Commanding Officers of the 104th Pa., 52nd Pa, 100th NY, 81st NY, 11th Maine, Battery H 1st NY Arty, Battery M 5th US Arty, Battery H 1st Pa. Arty, Battery E, 1st Pa. Arty, 8th Batty NY, 3d Batln. 5th NY Cav. and the 1st NY Arty. The circular addressed to the Commanding Officer at Yorktown is then instructed "You will therefore forward immediately through yourself the returns called for. If no transportation is on hand the same should be stated. You will also send a list of officers who do not comply..." VG.
