D, 16th Maine Vols., POW Weldon Railroad, 4pp. 8vo., ink, Camp near Brookes Station, [Va.], November 26, 1862, and reads in part: "... Four or Five days before we left Sharpsburg the Col. sent Capt. Ayer to Washington after the knapsacks...it seems to me as though our knapsacks could be here in a couple of days...Col. Wilde has not joined us yet, neither has Capt. Rund, but Col. Tilden had a letter from him last the other day in which he states that he is much better, and will soon join his company...I think that march of Oct. 26, was [what] killed Capt. Williams, he fell out just before we stopped in the woods..." VG.
