Autograph Letters Signed by "Mother Bailey" and "Theod.Bailey" on verso of each other, datelined March 22, 1863, Dunkirk, Wisconsin, with the Father writing in part: "…happiness is not for this world our country is full of mourning Paul Knight [22nd Wis. Infy] died [of disease] in the army a few weeks since. Franklin Lyon [25th Wis. Infy], Benton Lyon [23rd Wis. Infy], Oscar Warner [22nd Wis. Infy] have all died in the army within a few weeks. Elijah Estes [7th Wis. Infy] has lost right arm at the second battle of Bull Run. Joseph Evans [7th Wis. Infy] lost a leg at the same place and died shortly after. Luke Farnham [7th Wis. Infy] was shot through the lungs [at Gainesville, Va., August 28, 1862] but has recovered. Tom Campbell [7th Wis. Infy]…was shot through the leg [at Gainesville, Va., August 28, 1862] and is crippled for life [being discharged for wounds on Nov. 3, 1862] but I presume that you have enough of the horrors of war nearer home and I will leave the subject…."
