Receipt for supplies to feed the wounded from Gettysburg, 1p. quarto, addressed to Valentine Sauppe, and reads in part: “...Five thousand three hundred and fifty four pounds bread, at five cents per pound...to Hospital of 1st Army Corps in Court House Gettysburg...Be it known...J.F. McSleuder, a credible person, and on his solemn oath by me duly adminstered, did dispose and state that he was acting as agent for Valentine Sauppe in the monts of July and August last, in Gettysburg and that , he furnished, for said Vlentine Sauppe by order of Dr. A.J. Ward surgeon in charge of hospital of 1st corps, five thousandd and three hundred and fifty pounds of soft bread, to the Hospital in Court house, from 6th July to 4th August 1863...” VG.
